“Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
Looking through a local antique shop called The Kaleidoscope I lovingly beheld objects that were identical to those that had decorated my grandmother’s home years ago. As I rummaged through antiquated styles and fads I began to reminisce about different friends and loved ones whom I miss.
Oh, how things change!
Do you ever think about that?
Change, I mean.
Everything in life changes.
Our children grow up and leave home. We grow older. Jobs change. People move here and there, coming and going. Children are born. Loved ones die.
Nothing seems certain. Everything is constantly changing.
The older I get the more I long
for things to stay the same. How comforting and how satisfying that would be.
That’s just not life.
But through the hard changes,
we can take comfort in our God who never changes.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” (James 1:17, KJV)
He is constant. He is consistent.
”For I am the LORD, I change not…” (Malachi 3: 6, KJV)
God never changes. He’s always the same.
God gives us hope in this changing world through understanding who He is and how He helps us.
When the ebb and flow of life leaves me perplexed I consider some well-know qualities of God’s character.
God is Omniscient.
Simply put that means He knows everything, He sees everything – before it happens God already knows it will happen.
(Psalm 139:1-6).
God is Omnipresent.
He’s everywhere all at once – we are always in His presence. (Psalm 139: 7-10)
God is Omnipotent.
That means He’s all-powerful – the Almighty One. (Ex. 6:3)
I’ve also learned this comforting fact:
God is faithful to us.
“Faithful is he that calleth you.” (I Thessalonians 5:24
“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you and keep you from evil.” (II Thessalonians 3:3)
I am so thankful the God who knows everything, who is present everywhere, who is all powerful, is faithful to me.
Are you facing a major change in your life?
Is a child moving away?
Are you facing the loss of a job?
Has tragedy or illness struck your family?
Are you being tossed about with worry and concern because of uncertainty?
“Be still and know that I am God.”
It may seem out of control for you – but the One who never changes has it under His control.
When we learn to rest in Him, He’ll see us through whatever change may come.

I am so thankful that in this world of constant change, we can count on God to never change! He always was, always is, and will always be…forever. Never changing! I love that about Him! Thanks for the great post!
