Building Healthy Habits for Life: Body, Mind and Spirit ~ Carla Pollard

Shake the Sugar Habit

#Shakethesugarhabit Tip #3

If you’re like me, last week had its ups and downs, but I was able to overcome the urge to slip back into my sugar habit. I found that planning ahead for those times when I couldn’t sit down for a meal helped me to be successful. When I had to grab something and run I made sure there were plenty of options at my disposal. Those options included fresh fruits, salads, cut vegetables, and beans with brown rice. These are quick food that packs plenty of nutrients to help level out the blood sugar and keep hunger at bay.

I began blogging about my journey back in March. You may want to go back and see some of the great tips I picked up from my granddaughter, Rhea. She is studying nutrition and plans on working in holistic medicine after graduation. If you’re interested in following her, please like her Facebook page, Back to Eden, at https://www.facebook.com/Back-To-Eden-356360061236052/timeline/?ref=br_tf.

Body: #Shakethesugarhabit Tip #3: Choice foods high in fiber. This makes you feel fuller longer. It also helps to slow the absorption of sugar. This has a positive effect on your blood sugar levels and help reverse metabolic syndrome. If you’re unfamiliar with that term, this is a great article to get you up to speed,  http://www.medicinenet.com/metabolic_syndrome/article.htm.

Mind: I’m not only interested in obtaining a healthy body, but I want God to renew my mind and spirit as well. One way we can renew our minds is to memorize Bible passages, and then living by them. I want to set a goal to memorize one passage each month. Will you join me? For October, let’s work on this passage from Romans 8:5-6:

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (NKJV).

Spirit: This week, do something just for you. Maybe you have a hobby you’d like to work on; or you just want to pamper yourself in some way. Set a time and do it! Go get that pedicure. Sit still for that massage. Pull out your pictures and scrapbook, or start on that sewing project. It does our spirit’s good when we pursue a pastime that we enjoy. So do something just for you this week. Make it a habit.

Dear Father, Thank you for working in these goals and helping me to accomplish what seems impossible. Thank you that you have broken the power of the enemy and have given me the victory over my bad eating habits. I’m so grateful that you have filled this world food good for my body, mind and spirit. This next week, help me to continue to make better choices. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Next, we’ll return to our study of Moses and the children of Israel as God calls them from Egypt to the Promised land.
